Last month, I posted an entry about IT industry trends in which I suggested health informatics might soon create interesting job opportunities for database administrators. IDC Health Insights senior research analyst Silvia Chiara Piai recently said IT that supports business model change is an “overarching theme on which healthcare organizations will need to focus in 2010,” meaning employment opportunities in health informatics could materialize sooner than expected - and not just for database administrators like I originally thought. Some clinical decision support software (CDSS) programs such as Odyssey, which was developed by The Plain Software Company, depend on the Windows Server 2008 operating system to help doctors make the tough calls they face every day. If Piai is right, CDSS will become an increasingly critical aspect of health informatics, and corporations like The Plain Software Company will need more server administrators in order to continue providing their valuable service. Think demand for CDSS could create jobs for server administrators? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below. Looking for a job?
