DreamSpark?

OK I'm not exactly a code writer, nor am I stupid. I've had about 15 years behind a monitor. What I am wishing to find out is... Why does DreamSpark use an .iso image for the free downloads? I just don't understand how to make a DVD bootable. Or for that fact use the .iso image to install onto my system. Whatever happened to a self extracting program anyways? Easy... not for me! Anyway, let me explain what I've tried, and why they didn't work. (To the best of my knowlege). So far I downloaded Visual Studio twice, and both DVD's were a disaster i plan to junk them after I find out what I am doing wrong. My OS is on a hp dv6-1245 running Vista x-64 SP-2. The first download went flawless over a DSL line. I burned it to a new DVD it did not work I got frustrated and formatted over the burn...JUNK IT! Mind you, the first download was only 8xx mb and took about two hours I thought something was wrong with that. So, last night I started the download from the suggested button. It took the calculated 10hrs. Now I've got the new one and it's 3.3 gb kool I got the whole thing this time. Right/wroong So, I took that file and burn it to DVD all at once. I still cannot extract the program. I even converted the file opener with WinImage in order to use the download without any positive results. I've asked my instructor. he suggested that I sighn into Vista using Administrator as the user name. BTW I am the only user of this machine. If anybody can get through all this drivel can you give me specific instructions as to how I can use the .iso image to extract this file to my machine? I would like to have the program on DVD. In case I lock up, or just am not prepared for this program yet. I'd like to get famular with some of these programs, someday. Any reply is appreciated, and I'll keep investigating, as to the proceedure that it takes to use one of these applications.

Thanx for taking the time to read me crying online.

Re: DreamSpark?

You'll be glad to know that Windows 7 has built in iso burning tools! Some other tools allow you to open iso images such as WinRAR and extract the contents of it so you get the setup.exe files etc. http://www.imgburn.com/ this tool allows you to easily burn iso's too and is totally free.

Re: DreamSpark?

I use MagicDisk. It allows you to mount .iso images just like a CD in the CD drive. You can create a few virtual CD Drives and mount .iso's into those and it runs just like a disk, but without the hassel of a physical disk.
